Basque Interpretation Centre for Historical Memory

Praktika Onak

The Basque Interpretation Centre for Historical Memory, in Elgeta, focuses on the Spanish Civil War.

As well as treating military issues, the centre investigates the causes and consequences of the war, based on what happened in the vicinity of Elgeta and using witness reports from the time. Dignity and memory are the backbone of the centre.

On one hand, visitors can see the permanent exhibitions in Espaloia Café Theatre in Elgeta, comprised of weapons, tools and newspapers from the time, models and audiovisuals.

On the other, they can take a thematic tour of around 5 kilometres, and discover the remains of the trenches, parapets and shelter in the foothills of mount Intxorta.

Guided tours the first and last Sunday of each month. For bookings call (+34) 943 71 89 11 or (+34) 943 79 64 63 or send an e-mail to turismo@debagoiena.net
