Saint Stephen's Chapel in Gerekiz

It was one of the oldest parish churches in Bizkaia, after suffering an important fire in 1961 it was fully rebuilt in 1992.

The oldest remains in the town were discovered in this chapel: three late Roman tombstones, dating from the 14th century AD, are one of the few traces that certify Roman presence in Bizkaia.

While the original tombstones can be found in the Diocesan Museum of Bilbao, their replicas are placed on a wall of the renovated chapel.
