Game of Thrones to be filmed in the Basque Country

Game of Thrones will be filming part of its seventh season in the seaside localities of Zumaia and Bermeo. Filming of the new episodes is to begin this summer and they will be released in 2017. The spectacular cliffs formed by the flysch formations and the magical island of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe are among the settings that have captivated the producers of the epic fantasy series. In this way the Basque Country, “A Land of Legend”, joins its legendary landscapes with Game of Thrones, an international award-winning series with millions of fans, based on the “A Song of Ice and Fire” saga written by George R R Martin. Zumaia, situated on a stunning bay surrounded by green mountains rolling down to the sea. Bermeo, a uniquely charming municipality located in the Urdaibai biosphere reserve, has one of the leading fishing harbours in the Basque Country.
