The e-Basque Route, a sustainable tourist mobility project

As part of the Touring programme, its aim is to tour the Basque Country by electric car

The e-Basque Route project involves a tourist route to discover the Basque Country by road, for electric vehicles. An extension of the 8 Touring routes under the brand of The Basque Route, so that it now includes routes that can be done by electric car. In order to adapt these routes the Department of Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs has listed and placed on the website all the charging points in the Basque Country, as well as organising the provision of new ones.

The e-Basque Route abides by the principles of the Basque ethical tourism code in its commitment to sustainability. The route sets out to showcase less well-known places of interest to visitors, to help de-seasonalise tourism by spreading tourist traffic throughout the country and encouraging visitors to stay longer, as well as broadening and enhancing the quality of their holiday experience.

The e-Basque Route also responds to the demand of a type of visitor who likes getting to know the country by driving round it - and the Basque Country has many visitors of this kind.

A specific section on The e-Basque Route has been added to the Basque Route website, including all the charging points located in tourist accommodation, the electric route map and other information related to sustainable mobility.
