Plaza del Ensanche, 11, Bilbao
As it names suggests, this market is situated in Plaza del Ensanche, just off the Gran Vía (Bilbao's main commercial and financial artery). It was built during the urban expansion of the 19th century, between the streets Colón de Larreategui and Henao.
Remodelled in 2003, today the market building is a combination of tradition and modernity. Its 10 stalls sell typical local produce ranging from fruit and vegetables to meat and fish. The building also houses various cultural and information offices dedicated to the city, while the central space (1,053 square metres) will be used to host events and as a gathering place.
