One hour on the motorway from Bilbao going towards France, we find Donostia (as it is known in the Basque language), the capital of the province of Gipuzkoa. Nothing beats walking along the coast on sunny days, enjoying the sea, the shops, the terraces and the congress centres such as the Kursaal (whose symbol is well known as it is where the famous film festival is held), until you reach the Boulevard and the Old Quarter, which the residents of Donostia call “lo Viejo”. There, the full meaning of the word “pintxo” becomes clear, as in Donostia they are experts at this renowned form of miniature cuisine, which has so often received awards and is renowned the world over.
