The Aizkorri-Aratz Park House

Sensitising and making the visitor aware of the importance of preserving our natural resources are the main targets of The Aizkorri-Aratz Park House. In this sense, it offers comprehensive information about nature and the life in the municipality, as well as about the preservation of ecosystems. Our guide to the centre is an edible dormouse or "mitxarro", as it is known in the Basque Country. This small mammal rodent is currently in danger of extinction, and therefore, plays an important role in the centre.

Visitors will discover inside exhibitions on the machinery used in ironworks during the 18th century and on the water as energy source. Furthermore, the centre keeps also a reproduction of an ancient kitchen. Nature is very important for the new interpretation centre. Whereas the fauna section focuses on the "mitxarro", the flora section deals with vegetable specimens from the Natural Park of Aizkorri-Aratz. The centre puts at visitors' disposal different information systems such as panels, photographs, diaporamas and many interactive games that enable us to learn in a creative manner.
